Case Study: Developing an Affordable Case Management Software for Non-Profits
About the Project
This project focused on creating an affordable and user-friendly case management software for non-profits. The software was designed to track and report information about the delivery of services within non-profit programs. It facilitated the management of client journeys from intake to exit, capturing data on activities, assessments, and outcomes. The goal was to streamline the workflow for case managers, who coordinate services for clients, ensuring comprehensive tracking of client progress and engagement throughout their involvement in the program. Each stage, from referral and intake to final assessment and exit, was incorporated into the system to provide a clear and efficient overview of client interactions and results.
The Challenge
1. Understanding the Non-Profit Sector:
- The Product Management team faced the challenge of quickly acquiring in-depth knowledge about the non-profit industry, an area in which they had no prior experience.
- Translating insights from a non-profit expert into a viable software solution that would meet the customer’s unique needs was critical.
2. Defining and Prioritizing Features:
- Distilling extensive information into a clear, actionable plan was necessary to develop an affordable and easy-to-use software solution.
- Key features had to be carefully identified and prioritized to ensure the software addressed non-profits' needs without becoming overly complex or difficult to navigate.
Tools and Methodology
Discovery and Insight Gathering:
- Conducted comprehensive discovery sessions to gather detailed information about non-profit operations and needs.
- Engaged deeply with stakeholders to understand their workflows, challenges, and desired features for a case management solution.
Wireframing and Conceptual Design:
- Developed initial low-fidelity wireframes to outline the software’s basic structure and user flow, based on gathered insights.
- These wireframes served as a foundation for further refinement, aligning with project goals and stakeholder feedback.
Outcomes
1. Successful Feature Definition
- A clear set of prioritized features was established, guiding the development of an intuitive and effective software solution for non-profits.
- Stakeholders appreciated the alignment of the software features with their operational needs and goals.
2. Stakeholder Engagement and Satisfaction:
- Continuous engagement with stakeholders during the product management phase ensured that the solution was well-received and met user expectations.
